The stables are located on what was originally a packing station for deer hunters in the 1940's-1960's. The operation became a full time trail riding business in 1965 when the original Tahoe City location was sold. The Courtney Family purchased the business in 1967 and it has remained a family operation since. Larry and Teri Courtney took over operations from Larry's father Don in the mid 1980's. Keeping with tradition the stables still conducts packing into Granite Chief Wilderness during the fall deer hunting season.
